Things to Do in Soho, New York City

After living in NYC for many years, I often have friends visiting and I'm in charge of planning their entire itinerary. I truly believe I've become very good at this and wanted to share my recommendations with travelers seeking help. I won't go through traditional tourist traps, but places that New Yorkers would be found.

Lets start with some shopping. If you're in Soho, some of my favorite stores can be found. To mention a few, there's Top Shop and Topman, Uni Qlo, Bloomingdales (Soho store), Atrium, Flying A, What Comes Around Goes Around, and Inven.tory. This is a great mix of department stores and some small boutique stores.

Atrium (Broadway and Bleeker) is a trendy store, carrying casual wear. Inven.tory (my personal favorite) recently opened up. It's located on Lafayette street and they sell leftover inventory from high end stores, so you'll find some great quality clothing for great prices. Flying A is half vintage and half new stuff. If you're looking for a cool vintage jacket or some older denim, you'll find this there and the same type of stuff is also found at What Comes Around Goes Around.

Top Shop/Topman is on Broadway as well. This store is also fairly new, brought over from England. They carry a variety of things, from suits, sweaters, pants, shirts for both men and women. Bloomingdales is the same as well, but it's a bit pricier. Uni Qlo is an Asian department store that specializes in denim. They're really well priced and fit great.

Some of my favorite restaurants. Everyone must try the corn at Cafe Habana on Elizabeth street (make sure to go to the takeout). If you're looking for a great sit down meal, then check out Balthazar. This is one of NYC's more well-known restaurants and it's a great meal anytime of the day. For something a bit more sexy, check out Elizabeth (this is the name of the restaurant), on Elizabeth Street. They make great drinks and have a beautiful area in the back with a retractable roof for the summer!

Claudio Harrison is a resident of NYC. When he's not running around NYC, he's often found working on his car and his diesel exhaust systems. For more on his auto hobby, check out http://dieselexhaustsystems.org.
